Using Outlook with your Anti-spam Service

Outlook Instructions

  1. Click "Tools" in the top menu bar.
  2. Click "Rules Wizard" and then "New".
  3. Select a condition in the first window pane. We selected "move messages based on content".
  4. In the bottom window pane, click on an underlined item "specific words" and enter a search criteria, we recommend matching "*" symbols as the Antispam software at JerseyNet assigns a number of "*"s based upon how likely it is to be spam. To filter email with a likelihood of 5 or higher, enter "*****" (five asterisks). Click "Add" and then "OK
  5. Click on the underlined word in the phrase "move it to the specified folder".
  6. Highlight the "Junk E-mail" folder or Click "New…" and create an appropriately named folder, clicking "OK" when completed.
  7. Click Finish. Your rule is now activated.
  8. To Review email flagged as likely spam, open your "Junk E-Mail" folder.


Outlook Express Instructions

  1. Click "Tools" in the top menu bar. Then click "Message Rules".
  2. Make sure to click "Mail"(not News).
  3. Select "Where the Subject line contains specific words".
  4. Select an action in the second window pane. Choose to either "Move it to a specific folder" where you can review your emails that are likely to be spam prior to deleting them, or you may choose "Delete it" which is more dangerous in in that you may delete an email that was not really Spam.
  5. In the third window pane, click on the underlined phrase "contains specific words" and assign it a value. We recommend matching "*" symbols as the Antispam software at JerseyNet assigns a number of "*"s based upon how likely it is to be spam. To filter email with a likelihood of 5 or higher, enter "*****" (five asterisks). Click "Add" and then "OK".
  6. If you selected "Move it to a specific folder" above, then click on the underlined word of the phrase "specific folder" and select a folder. If you do not have a folder for junk emails, make sure the Inbox is highlighted and click on "New Folder" and create a folder called "Junk E-mail". Now with the folder selected, click "OK".
  7. Click "OK" again. (Make sure you click OK not Cancel!) Your rule is now activated.
  8. To Review email flagged as likely spam, open your "Junk E-Mail" folder.


Outlook 2003 Instructions

  1. Click "Tools" in the top menu bar
  2. Click "Rules and Alerts" and then "New Rule"
  3. Select "Move messages with specific words in the subject to a folder" in the top pane
  4. In the bottom pane, Step 2, click on the underlined item "specific words" and enter a search criteria, we recommend matching "*" symbols as the Antispam software at JerseyNet assigns a number of "*"s based upon how likely it is to be spam. To filter email with a likelihood of 5 or higher, enter "*****" (five asterisks). Click "Add" and then "OK"
  5. Click on the underlined word in the phrase "move it to the specified folder".
  6. Highlight the Junk E-mail folder or click "New..." and create an appropriately named folder, clicking "OK" when completed.
  7. Click "Finish"
  8. Click "OK"
  9. To review email flagged as likely spam, open your "Junk E-Mail" folder.
